October 19  - 19 UN Basic Standards Course 10/19/2016 Pittsford, NY

The ACA Standards Course is specifically designed to help prepare people who are NEW to the accreditation process for their accreditation visits, and to serve as an introduction to the standards program for those interested in becoming accreditation visitors. The camp may or may not be currently accredited. A person completing the ACA Standards Course on behalf of a camp is expected to actively assist the camp in preparation for the accreditation visit, be on site a significant amount of time during the camp season, and participate fully in the on-site accreditation visit.

October 28  - 28 NE Fall Seminar 16 Waltham, MA

Join Dr. Chris Thurber and Donna Johns-Thomas for this valuable seminar. Comprehensive Abuse Prevention: Ten Ways to Safeguard Campers and Staff Prevent harm and avoid litigation with a sophisticated approach to camper-camper and staff-camper mistreatment. Reading your staff the riot act or a litany of symptoms does little to cultivate healthy relationships or promote a true understanding of reporting obligations. Only a customized, wrap-around approach to abuse prevention that includes parents, campers, and staff under the same respectful umbrella will bring you peace of mind. This intensive seminar will guide professionals through ten practical elements that work in synchrony to provide maximum protection against physical and sexual abuse. And it’s not just preventing the bad, it’s also about promoting the good. Guided by national data and local case studies, Chris will lead explanations and discussions of practical prevention strategies that every youth program needs to adopt for the young people they serve. Learn how to combine culture, data, audits, interviews, background checks, online + on-site training, parents, campers, and staff to extract the best behavior from everyone in your camp family. Presented by Dr. Chris Thurber Lessons Learned from the ACA Camp Crisis Hotline For almost 30 years, the ACA Camp Crisis Hotline has helped thousands of camps through times of crisis. We’ve created case studies and lessons learned to help you train your staff to prepare for the coming season. Learn about the latest issues and walk away with access to valuable resources!
